Why an Online Shop’s Application may be declined by Pinterest’s Verified Merchant Program?

It happens…sometimes e-commerce businesses are not accepted the first time they apply to the Pinterest Verified Merchant Program. But it’s something we can fix. Remember how I talked about the Merchant Guidelines?

Welcome to Part 4 of my blog mini-series about Pinterest’s Verified Merchant Program. In this blog, we are going to review WHY e-Commerce brands may be declined in their attempt to become a Pinterest Verified Merchant.

If you aren’t Accepted to the Verified Merchant Program

If you aren’t accepted, it’s time to go back and double-check all of Pinterest’s Merchant Guidelines. I am including a few things to review. These are items I have seen brands need to fix. Remember, Pinterest wants your shoppers to have a positive user experience. This means your shop website must be up to date and easy for shoppers to navigate.

  • Check your product descriptions (are they clear, are you giving enough detail, do you have spelling errors)

  • Is your returns policy clear and easy for the customer to understand? You should have this in a place on your site that is easy to access.

  • Are your products up to date with inventory

  • Are the images on your site clear?

  • Do your Social Media Buttons work correctly? Are your Social Media Accounts active? If not, don’t put the icons on your shop until they can be clicked and successfully take someone to your social media.

  • Is your shipping policy clear and easy to understand? You should have this in a place on your site that is easy to access.

  • Is your shop site claimed on your Pinterest Account? Your claimed domain needs to match your shop website.

My experience is that most of the time, the reason a business isn’t accepted to the Verified Merchant Program is that they haven’t carefully reviewed and updated their shop to meet the guidelines. If you are turned down, go back and review the steps above and the guidelines. And then, try again!
